What is AEP?
The Allied Eye Professionals (AEP) is a section of the OOA, and involves optometrists and staff working together to advocate for a lifetime of eye and vision health.
What is the AEP mission statement?
The mission of AEP is to promote a team centered approach to advocacy so that optometrists and their staff may effectively communicate with patients and the community about the importance of a lifetime of comprehensive eye care.
What does AEP membership offer my staff and office?
- Assistance in creating a greater awareness of the need for comprehensive eye care
- Continuing education with emphasis on “best practices”
- Regional meetings with timely topics on practice management and advocacy
- Monthly e-newsletter on practice management issues, advocacy tips, and other topics
- Professional networking opportunities
Who is included in the AEP?
AEP is for doctors and all staff in an optometrist’s office including but not limited to opticians, paraoptometrics, medical technicians, billing and coding specialists, and administrators.
What is the cost for membership in AEP?
- $49 for first staff member
- $39 for second staff member
- $29 for all additional staff members
- OOA members who enroll their staff in AEP receive membership at no charge
Does AEP replace the current Paraoptometric Section?
Yes. AEP replaces the former Ohio Paraoptometric Section. Allied Eye Professionals includes ALL staff in an optometrist’s office. Ohio’s AEP is separate from AOA Paraoptometric Section.

- InfantSEE – Comprehensive eye assessments to infants at no charge
